X.org 7.x default mouse cursor changes inexplicably [solved]

In case anyone else has this problem, I thought i'd share my experience to save them the search for an answer..

After a long session of attempting to figure out why my default X.org mouse cursors spontaneously changed to a black triangle / funky 'A' looking thing that I did not care for (in openbox), I first looked at all the usual xcursor search paths (/usr/share/icons/) looking for an answer, thinking the problem was some GTK engine, etc..

Come to find out in the end that when installing the latest artwiz-fonts package, there is a cursor font that takes precedent over your default xcursors on an X restart..

Possible fixes (choose one):
1.) remove the artwiz-fonts pkg
2.) remove the xcursor font from /usr/share/fonts/artwiz-fonts
3.) specify your own favorite xcursor theme in ~/.icons/default/index.theme
4.) specify a system-wide favorite xcursor theme in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

I spent quite a while looking in all the wrong places for a fix to this.

Please submit a bug report to flypsray , so the package maintainer can look into it.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: X.org 7.x default mouse cursor changes inexplicably [solved]

After looking a little more, I see that the default X.org pointers are supplied by cursor.pcf.gz in /usr/share/fonts/misc and I had placed the artwiz font path ahead of misc in the search path..

I don't think it is a bug for artwiz to supply its own cursor.pcf per se, but it can be confusing to have your mouse pointer change when your main point is to add a few more fonts to X.
