[SOLVED] Desktop has gone black after upgrade
After an upgrade on early 13 September, my Arch Plasma desktop has gone black. The panel (which I position at the top) and the wallpaper are gone. I only have the cursor and, surprisingly, the Latte Dock at the bottom.
I can launch applications from the Dock and applications work fine.
During the upgrade process, pacman presented an option to replace a package called
libutil-linuxwith
util-linux-libsfrom the Core repository. I accepted that. From another thread I see people are having some partition issues. But my partitions are okay.
Running

Didn't exactly run plasmashell alone.
I tried plasmashell --replace in krunner. The wallpaper can be seen for a second or two - not the panel, though - and then it goes back to dark.
Saw this on a Reddit thread. Looks like the latest upgrade has broken the Plasma desktop for a lot of people. I believe they will come up with a fix soon.

Some of my QT apps broke due to library incompatibilities between 5.15.1 and 5.15.0 downgrading qt 5.15.0 has helped for the moment, is it possible you have a similar situation?

Your issue is an unsupported Qt style plugin that you need to take care of yourself, it's unrelated to this

I had the same problem, efecty I went to the path by terminal: /home/user/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids, there I deleted the directory org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar and it worked for me. I used the following command: rm -rf org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar.
Just I have any question: how did you discover that eventcalendar was the culprit? What command did you run in the terminal?

Has nothing to do with krunner, he ran plasmashell in a normal terminal and the resulting output showed that it crashed in a function of the event calendar. You'll probably find the same information in your user journal FWIW.

Discover doesn't seem to be updating the widgets in
~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/Not sure if pacman auto-updates plasma5-applets-eventcalendar from AUR. It's installed to
/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/You can confirm your version of EventCalendar with:
grep Version ~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar/metadata.desktop /usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar/metadata.desktopIt should be the latest version (v69).

Same problem for me. I have the version 38 of the eventcalendar. I have removed that folder in .local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar but now I can't see the date in the bottom bar. Even so, the desktop is not extended to my external monitor...
Edit: This seems to be fixed removing the local installation of eventcalendar and installing the version from AUR. Then once you boot the system you must restart plasmashell to get the desktop working. Even so, there are still thing that don't work like the sound through the headphones
