Konsole windows start where last one closed.

Running plasma desktop, and never had a problem opening a konsole window. However after the update konsole (20.08.0-1 -> 20.08.1-1) and kwin (5.19.5-1 -> 5.19.5-2) I find that opening konsole, the window places where the previous last instance was positioned on the screen, and when a second konsole window is started it opens on top of the first, and not beside it as used to happen. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a workaround? It seems to be the same whether the window is opened using the 'konsole' command in a terminal window, or if konsole is started from the k menu. I have the same on two different machines. Also today I see that kwindowsystem (5.73.0-1 -> 5.74.0-1) updated, so I don't know if that has had an effect.

I would like to be able to return to the previous behaviour where opening a second console window does so beside the current one. Is this discussion thread link directly relevant:

If so, is there going to be a user selectable switch that will be available in the next release?

Thank you, Arojas, I look forward to when there is a switch.... at the moment the 'minimal overlapping' setting in Window Management -> Window Behaviour is being over-ridden by the new feature. Hopefully the release will not be too far away.

Thanks. For a single window for an application remembering position may be useful, but for multiple instances as often used for konsole it doesn't make sense to have them piled on top of each other so you can't easily see the content of the set other than the on on top, unless you move one or more to a different position on the screen, and then the result would be that the new position would be remembered for opening in a different virtual desktop which may not be ideal. Hopefully it will be developed to give optimal options.

You can (hopefully still) create a kwin rule to ignore the initial window position for konsole.

Thanks, and I will have to explore that. Though whether you can have the initial window, say, at top left, and subsequent windows open immediately to the right or below, I don't know at present. That was the default behaviour previously.
