[SOLVED] Nvidia Graphics card terrible performance

Hi all, I've recently switch back to Arch from Manjaro and am having issues with my Geforce RTX 2060 card. I've been debugging but have hit a bit of a wall and need help. Below I will list some of the issues I am seeing and what I have done to attempt to fix it. I installed it with this guide, and went through this wiki too.

- No transparency options for apps in KDE, Konsole and things like the shutdown overlay are solid colour. Konsole even says in the Profile Menu under Appearance 'This colour scheme uses a transparent background which does not appear to be supported on your desktop'.
- Games (such as HL2) run at 0.5 FPS. I recently completed HL2 with Manjaro as my OS and it was smooth as butter.
- Overall the desktop feels more sluggish than it used to, but it's hard to tell.
- Thermals are higher than they used to be (may be unrelated, the machine is getting old).

In terms of packages this is what I have installed (nvidia nvidia-settings lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-libgl mesa xf86-video-intel nvidia-utils mesa mesa-libgl lib32-mesa) and I also installed and run the bumblebee service. I have even blakclisted nouveua.

I ran HL2 again and then quit and ran dmesg and lspci, this pastebin has the contents. I see 'error' around a USB thing, doesn't seem related, and it does mention bumblebee but I get the same performance with or without it so also seems unrelated.

What are my next steps in debugging this issue? Happy to post any logs etc that might help. Any help would be appreciated.

Post your xorg config, if you've generated anything here, remove whatever you generated and retry, maybe also post a xorg log and 

pacman -Qs nvidia
pacman -Qs linux
glxinfo -B

...
Why did you install bumblebee? Do you have multiple cards? is this a laptop? The lspci output suggest there's no intel  vga but it is loaded in dmesg.

I removed the xorg.conf I made and ran the above commands outout here. I then foolishly rebooted without restoring the backup file. Having a no brain day today.

Another example is Spectacle (the screenshot tool) when I try to take a 'rectangle region' grab it should bring up a transparent overlay but often the app just crashes or disappears without error when I try to do it.

If you remove your xorg.conf does xorg simply not start? There is technically a second GPU but it doesn't appear to be connected anywhere, to be absolutely certain, disable the integrated GPU in your BIOS/UEFI

Hi,

I cannot see an option in my BIOS to disable the Intel GPU. When I remove xorg.conf I get a black screen on boot but have a mint install i can use to restore from easily.

This post has a similar error in the log to mine but adding these lines had no effect on the system.

I have now removed everything nvidia related, deleted xorg.conf and stopped the bumblebee service (even had to remove steam to allow it) and I am now on the basics, I will attempt to start from scratch installing and setting it all up.

Now you don't have the nvidia nor the nvidia-utils packages installed, you definitely need them in any case. I don't know what exactly you did with regards to bumblebee there shouldn't be a need to remove steam or anything else along side it.

The error was related to some vulkan lib dependency that steam required. But the package wasn't there when I looked for it directly.

What?

Edit: the error I pointed out happens because the nvidia-drm match doesn't apply and the modulepath isn't extended. So the driver can't find or load its glx module. This has nothing to do w/ steam or vulkan.

Sorry I was responding to this.

I seem to have mostly resolved the issue after some back and forth removing and installing things fresh. Games now run smoothly but I still have some issue (like transparency not working) but these are probably unrelated to drivers. I no longer have the most of the things I installed, just the bare minimum required for it to work. My guess is I installed and configured things in the wrong order originally and it caused some weird glitches. Now it seems fine.

I will triple check everything and mark this as solved once I am done.

Update, I had to disable and reenable the compositor to get transparency to work.

KDE System Settings > Display and Monitor >  Compositor

Solved. Thanks both for you're help in this weird issue.
