Re: amd graphic card problem

other things I have tried Im just going to edit it  so  mds dont think im trying to just keep bumping
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I put in my windows 10 hard drive driver say radeon rx 560x Series. What means it is hard where no software. My fans doesn't speed up ether what I am hoping its the same driver issue. Yes, i tried fan control command line and gui. No, issus with fans ether  in windows put them to max in nitro sense app  just to make so  its was not a hardware issue.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
replacing quiet with nomodeset in grub  did not work. for me is was just quiet not quiet splash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
fixed my fan issue with

sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf
Section "Device"
   Identifier "AMD Graphics"
   Driver "amdgpu"
   Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just remember I had this error well update I copied and paged it to gdocs. I relize now this may be the cause

=> WARNING: Possibly missing firmware for module: wd719x
==> WARNING: Possibly missing firmware for module: aic94xx
==> WARNING: Possibly missing firmware for module: xhci_pcie.

fixed module issues by googing here are the two links that  fixed them.

Re: amd graphic card problem

You should trash xf86-video-*junks* and stop messing with xorg.conf. It is hardly believing that people using bleeding edge Linux distro such as Arch with modern hardware/GPU less than 5 years old would still believe in the archaic user-land graphic stacks and xconf. Please give yourself a break, switch to KMS. The Linux/KMS graphics stacks should have more publicity for typical user awareness for great Linux experience.

Re: amd graphic card problem

matti666 , your system appears to have 2 videocards :
- Raven Ridge aka Radeon Vega that is integrated in your AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor
- discrete videocard with a AMD Baffin chipset ( probably RX 560x family )

That would make this a hybrid graphics system. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PRIME for details

I agree with liewkj you shouldn't need 20-amdgpu.conf, please remove it.

Many issues with starting X / initialising hardware are caused by race conditions.
The simplest method to solve those is to configure early KMS .

I disagree with liewkj about xf86-video-amdgpu though .
If that's not present on your system X will fall back on the generic modesetting driver which lacks support for some options of amd cards.

In case you need more help, post dmesg and/or journal plus xorg log.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

IMHO, it is not right to convey the message that X modesetting driver is *generic* fallback. X DDX will go away some days. If anything was indeed done to DDX but not KMS, they were ugly hacks and not going to be supported well in the future. I personally do not experience any lacking using solely KMS on AMD GPUs, including the "TearFree" option bogus myth that was supposedly only offered by DDX, if that was what you really meant.

Re: amd graphic card problem

i did journalctl > txt  to copy and paste  but then I relized it was over 9000 pages and no one was going to go though all that. so I removed the link to it below.

Re: amd graphic card problem

Perhaps not full journal needed, last boot might be enough. In my computer it's (currently) 2335 lines. Also some editing can be done, I think not all lines are necessary here.

Have I understood correctly, Xorg works flawlessly, but you want to replace it with Wayland ?

no I want my AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon instead of my integrated graphics. and I don't under stand how to do the prime thing for hybrid systems.

honestly if I can get my radeon to be the main on i would be fine with that for  now. cuz at least I can play my games at a higher setting.

Re: amd graphic card problem

The PRIME wiki page deals only with X , no idea how to tell wayland to use a specific gpu .
The documentation for the wayland compositor you use ( weston, wlroots , mutter , plasma-wayland to name a few) may have info.

I've searched but only found people with similar issues[1] , no solution .

You may have to settle for using Xorg instead of wayland.

Re: amd graphic card problem

Those instructions are applicable for systems where the integrated gpu uses a different kernelmodule then the discrete gpu.
On your system the igpu and discrete gpu both use the same driver.

Your best option is probably a custom conf file  that tells X which card to use as primary.

create /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-discrete-gpu.conf

Section OutputClass
   Identifier "Baffin"
   BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
   Option "PrimaryGPU"
EndSection

Section OutputClass
   Identifier "Raven Ridge"
   BusID "PCI:4:0:0"
   Option "PrimaryGPU" "false"
EndSection

(re-)start X , post xorg log.
This file is untested, so may not give a graphical screen.
In case it does, post glxinfo -B output (it comes with mesa-demos package) .

That could very well be  a problem with the display manager , not X .

add ystemd.unit=multi-user.target to your boot commandline to ensure you're booting to multi-user.target , NOT graphical target.

login as user on console, configure startx / xinit to start the graphical environment manually , see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinit

Re: amd graphic card problem

You are missing xorg's fonts (quickly what I have installed). Not critical for X functionality, install if you want (see Lone_Wolf's comment).

extra/xorg-fonts-100dpi 1.0.3-7 (xorg) [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-75dpi 1.0.3-7 (xorg) [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-alias-100dpi 1.0.4-1 [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-alias-75dpi 1.0.4-1 [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-alias-misc 1.0.4-1 [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-misc 1.0.3-10 [installed]
extra/xorg-fonts-type1 7.7-6 [installed]

From AUR, also ttf-ms-fonts package might be useful (to correctly show some web pages).
In xorg.conf, should be paths to xorg's fonts.

Section "Files"
	ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/OTF"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi"
	FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi"
EndSection

I'm not sure how complicated (installing) Gnome or KDE is these days. I switched to Xfce long time ago, since Gnome and KDE are too mammoth for my usage/taste.

Re: amd graphic card problem

Euromatlox, none of those xorg-fonts are critical for X functionality.

Also if you do suggest using aur packages NEVER advocate any aur helper.
Point users to the official aur page in the wiki instead.

Matti666 problem is likely with an in incorrect configuration, please read the whole thread before commenting.

EDIT:

Thank you for adjusting your post, euromatlox

Did not know/think about that of xorg (usually if log says missing I just install missing parts). Just fixed the other issue with wiki URL.
