First, specs on my system:
Graphics: Via VT8378 [S3 Unichrome]
Grub entry:
title Arch Linux
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26beyond root=/dev/hda5 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@60 splash=verbose,theme=darch console=tty1 [all of this is on one line]
initrd /boot/kernel26beyond-fallback.img
When I boot into kernel26beyond, the system freezes, with no error messages, but the screen looking like:

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

video=vesafb:off
btw, the picture is to small...

I have the same problem..my video card is nvidia GeForce FX Go5200

I can boot into kernel26beyond after I use these grub settings:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26beyond root=/dev/hda5 video=vesafb:1024x768-32@60 splash=verbose,theme=darch console=tty1
