I may be wrong, but that message from kwin may be related to a deficiency of the nvidia driver in saving and restoring the video memory when resume from hibernation/suspension.
In the past the situation was worse and you just get a garbled desktop on resume.
Kde devs worked around that.

The KDE devs recognized that it was a driver regression from nvidia and provided the current fix. It does prevent kwin crashing on resume but I guess it this is the fix for now until nvidia comes back with it's own solution.
EDIT: I will close this thread now. The latest driver update has fixed the resume from suspend and the artifacts problems on resume. I gathered restarting desktop effects on resume is to be expected.
