[SOLVED] nvidia 455.28 drivers slow performance on 1060 6GB

CPU: i3 8100
RAM: 8GB

I had first installed Ubuntu and noticed that mpv was dropping frames on videos (proprietary driver already installed) even my old laptop running Arch managed to play just fine, causing stuttering in the audio, so I thought it was a problem with Ubuntu and installed Arch. I have the zen kernel and installed nvidia-dkms. mpv keeps dropping frames in 1080p HEVC video, and games in Steam run horribly bad, not even setting them to low fixed the stuttering and frame dropping. I checked with glxgears -info and I'm running the nvidia 455.28 driver. Obviously tried to google but found nothing, so I was wondering if I'm really the only person having issues with this? Since it happened both in Ubuntu and Arch I'm guessing it's actually the driver and not me.

Post in [ code ] [ /code ] tags without the spaces

pacman -Qs nvidia
glxinfo -B
glxinfo32 -B #lib32-mesa-demos

and maybe a xorg log so we can have a general overview of what's happening.

Re: [SOLVED] nvidia 455.28 drivers slow performance on 1060 6GB

Alright so as seeing the 455.28 driver appears to be loading and "working properly" I decided to manually download and install an older version to try out (450.80.02), and surprise surprise, video playback is smooth and Steam games perform as expected.

If I'm the only GTX 1060 user who was affected by this I wouldn't know exactly why, but having tried the 455.28 driver in two different distros maybe it is the driver's problem and other people are affected too.

Re: [SOLVED] nvidia 455.28 drivers slow performance on 1060 6GB

You may be the only affected 1060 user , but you're not the only nvidia user affected.
Many users of pre-30xx nvidia cards have reported problems with the 455 driver.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=259530 has some background info.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
