Thinkpad dockingstation - xrandr: Configure crtc 2 failed
Hey everyone,
I have a ThinkPad E590 with a dedicated GPU (AMD Radeon RX 550X) and recently got a dockingstation (40AS0090EU) for it.
My System is running the 5.4.72-1-lts kernel, i3wm and the X server is started with 'startx' in .bash_profile
When I add two external monitors (1x HDMI, 1xDP) to the dockingstation and execute following command:
$ xrandr --output eDP1 --primary --auto --output DP1-3 --auto --left-of eDP1 --output DP1-1 --auto --left-of DP1-1or also split up
$ xrandr --output eDP1 --primary --auto
$ xrandr --output DP1-3 --auto --left-of eDP1
$ xrandr --output DP1-1 --auto --left-of DP1-1I get following error message (after the last command is executed):
xrandr: Configure crtc 2 failedand only the laptop and first external (DP1-3) display an image.
I also tried the output of 'arandr'
xrandr --output eDP1 --primary --mode 1920x1080 --pos 4480x0 --rotate normal
xrandr --output DP1 --off
xrandr --output DP1-1 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal
xrandr --output DP1-2 --off
xrandr --output DP1-3 --mode 2560x1440 --pos 1920x0 --rotate normal

xrandr --output VIRTUAL1 --offwhich enables the laptop and second external (DP1-1) display and leaves a 'black void' between them. The first external monitor (DP1-3) stays off.
When the laptop is connected to the dockingstation 'xrandr' shows following output:

Also tried:
Removing --auto and/or adding --mode MODE
Adding --crtc CRTCNUM
The only workaround I found was to put the external HDMI display directly into the laptop. With this setup I can use both external and the internal display. But that would be a waste of two more potential displays and the gernal idea of a dockingstation.
I saw that other people have the same problem with dockinstations, but the only solutions which seem to have success (reboot, arandr and splitting up the xrandr command) didn't help me.
Does anyone know a (alternative) solution or workaround?
I also considerated to switch to wayland, but don't want to make such a big change, which isn't even guaranteed to succeed and maybe interferes with other parts of my system setup.
