Besides my FireTV, I also have an x86_64 PC connected to my UHD 4K TV in my den. I'm trying different Linux distros and desktop environment to see what can be configured to work best. I'm currently using Archlinux with KDE Plasma and am having issues setting screen resolutions.
4K makes everything too small to read from 10 ft. away. With KDE Plasma I can zoom to 200% but then menu text is not right and text boxes are too small. I can't change the actual resolution to 1080P because it puts the TV into a mode not supported. This could be a bug because I can do this in Ubuntu.
The GFX card is a Nvidia GT 1030, and I have the Nvidia drivers installed.
My multimedia apps work once I get them running but the whole desktop, taskbar, and menus is really not viewable from 10ft. I can get Google Chrome to zoom with CTL -mouse wheel, so that's not a problem. But in general 1920x1080 is about right.
I may go back to XFCE4 but not sure I can solve my problems there either.
So I'm looking for advice on how to proceed with the 10ft. interface with Archlinux.

On my home entertainment center I have the dpi at 200. Then I can read the font in an xterm from 10-12 feet.

I somehow got myself locked out of my KDE Plasma interface and blew it away and went back to basics. I put XFCE4, and lightdm on top of Xorg server and it allows me to change the display to 1920x1080 @60Hz. I can tweak the icon and font sizes in xfce4 better since I figured it out once. So far so good. Now working to get the media apps working again.
I do need to figure out how to change the DPI for lightdm. Text is too small to see at 10' but I can type my password without seeing it.

I'm making progress on the 10' interface with xfce4 but somehow it steals the use of of the Media Pause/Play buttons and I can't use them in my apps. I have used the Settings -> Keyboard -> shortcuts to remove or add all the buttons I need except for the Media Keys. I've even removed Google Chrome using them. However they are still not available to my app.
I've read a number of post about this and most appear to be dated or tied to other Distros.
I'd really like to solve this, since it's the last hurtle I need before I'm done.

I have discovered that most of the Desktop Environments (DE) mess with the media keys somehow. LXDE does not and I can setup my media apps on it without problems, but I can't make LXDE appearance acceptable to me so I punted and tried Cinnamon.
Cinnamon has in it's Setting -> Keyboards -> Shortcuts a way to edit all shortcuts including Sound and Media. I was able unassigned Pause and Play from Cinnamon and then my app could use them.
My next be hurtle is to make Cinnamon use the Double (HIDPI) User Interface Scale in Display Settings every time it starts and also reset to this scale if the HDMI is disconnected by a HDMI switch or TV with multiple HDMI inputs.
