Recent kernel panics

This has happened twice in the last 6 weeks now - num lock and scroll lock lights flashing, lapptop is locked up. First kernel panic since I used to roll my own back in 2.2 so it was a bit of a surprise! In the process I discovered my scroll lock key (Fn+F5) doesn't work, though F5 works ok on it's own and Fn works with the other keys.

So, has anything changed in Arch recently that might be the cause? Or is it just a sign that my laptop is heading for it's grave? Only changes I made to it was increase RAM from 4GB to 8GB earlier this year (with an identical but used module) and clean and re-seat everything.

It's a Dell Latitude E6410, fairly old now and never given any trouble before.
TIA

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kdump

But I'd go w/ memtest86+ first, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … ing_memory
Identical module is good, but "used" is not ;-) and w/ two slots the timings gets a bin more unstable - you might have to lower them (but more slightly slower RAM is better than not enough RAM smile

Re: Recent kernel panics

memtest86+ - I see the option every time I boot the lappy, and it never entered my head! I'll try that first when I've got an hour to spare...
I'll try kdump if it keeps happening. Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Re: Recent kernel panics

It's gonna take more than an hour - you'll have to run a couple of cycles to reliably detect a problem.
Make it at least "a night".
