[SOLVED] Trying to install Arch linux on my MacBook Air, but wifi....

I am trying to install Arch Linux on my MacBook Air (I previously installed linux there many times). However, even when I connected the wifi network before booting from the usb, the iwctl didn't list the connected network.

Similar thing happened when I installed Fedora on the same laptop. I couldn't upgrade it to the recent version because the laptop couldn't catch any wireless networks around me. Is there something went wrong with its wireless card?

Check dmesg/your journal on what's happening with the detection here. I'd not assume that the pre boot selection of the wifi network has relevant relevance on whether the adapter is detected in linux. You do not have a wlan interface, that's kernel level before iwctl can do anything.

Mod hatting, please pay attention to our guidelines regarding image sizes: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_and_code

Here is an update. I finally installed Arch linux, but now I am having problems with mirrors. I tried to download neofetch (just to test if pacman works) and got these errors.

What did I do wrong here?

Re: [SOLVED] Trying to install Arch linux on my MacBook Air, but wifi....

Well how did you end up installing? That reads like you don't have a valid internet connection. If you rebooted after successfully installing, did you ensure to install relevant networking tools into the main system beforehand as mentioned in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … figuration ? Can you ping google?

FWIW the default mirror list is often overblown and not really efficient, limit yourself to a select few that are actively updated and close to your location: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status/#successful

I followed the instruction. The internet connection is weird here. I did install Network Manager.

I tried to install broadcom-wl-dkms in /mnt, unload some modules as they told me to, then I got kernel panic at the end.

(sigh)

EDIT:

I will reinstall it at some cafe nearby where they have better wifi connection.
