[Solved] nvidia driver upgraded, today. Cannot startx

My nvidia driver was upgraded from 455.38-1 to 455.38-2 this morning. I can no longer startx, successfully. According to lspci, the system is attempting to use the nouveau driver. nvidia 455.38-1 was working, yesterday.

[ 30.277] Current Operating System: Linux tux 5.9.2-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu, 29 Oct 2020 17:01:28 +0000 x86_64

Old kernel, you updated nvidia to match linux 5.9.3.arch1-1 but not the kernel itself.

Re: [Solved] nvidia driver upgraded, today. Cannot startx

Hmmm. I simply ran "pacman -Syu". I will run it again to see if a new kernel is upgraded.

Thanks

Re: [Solved] nvidia driver upgraded, today. Cannot startx

Did you maybe previously ignore the kernel in pacman.conf because of "incompatibilities" w/ the nvidia blog?

Re: [Solved] nvidia driver upgraded, today. Cannot startx

No. The top mirror in my mirrorlist still did not upgrade the kernel. I commented it out, and the next mirror gave me the new kernel.

Xorg is working now. Thank you for the first answer.
