[Solved] Missing block device from fake raid controller

Recently wiped ubuntu server and installed Arch on my fileserver. Install went fine, but I'm seeing something weird with my drives. The server has 3 SATA drives in it, one plugged into the motherboard, and two going into a rosewill "fake raid" card. With the previous Ubuntu install, I would see all three sdX drives in /dev, along a fourth block device for the mirrored disk. However, in Arch, I only see the /dev/sdX disks.

I've scoured the entire server, and this is driving me insane. I've went back into the RAID BIOS settings, and it's still configured correctly; I've not lost the RAID or anything like that. I can still mount the disks just fine, but I obviously don't want to leave it like that.

I'm convinced that I'm forgetting something incredibly stupid. I just can't seem to figure out what. People seem to be using this card just fine online, and it was working just fine before I switched to Arch. The only odd thing about the install is that I unplugged the drives (left the RAID card in) during install just to be extra safe; I didn't want to wipe my fileserver. I've tried including all relevant info below...

Since you don't mention it, I'll ask: did you read the very detailed Arch RAID Wiki? Especially the section "Installing Arch Linux on RAID"? Did you configure mkinitcpio w/ mdmon?

Thanks for your response.

I skimmed the article to see if there was anything in it that applied to me. I didn't think it did, and having looked at it again, I did find mention of dmraid being needed for fake raid controllers hidden in there. Surprising, I really thought that this would be completely transparent to the OS, since it's an external card.

Having installed it, it looks like I can now activate and configure the mirror, so I think you've helped me enough to learn for myself.

I do however think that the wiki is woefully inadequate for this. A one liner tucked in the middle of an 18 page article... ah, I'm just making excuses now. I'll update the wiki when I'm done learning how to set this thing up properly.
