PC keeps rebooting after graphics card installation

After installing the graphics  card into my pc it wont stop rebooting.
It gets to and past the boot loader, but then restarts.

What I've tried:
-booting from installation medium --> no change.
-plugging in old card and installed NVIDIA drivers. Swap old card for new again.  --> no change.

Any tip on how to proceed with the troubleshooting?

Specs:
Graphics card: Geforce GT 710
Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD5

Re: PC keeps rebooting after graphics card installation

Sounds like a brownout. Check the cables and connections from the PSU to the motherboard. If the cables are damaged or not seated correctly, then it can cause this sort of behaviour. It's possible something got knocked while you were installing the new GPU.

If the cables and connectors look fine, then maybe the PSU itself is at fault. If replacing the PSU doesn't help, then the next suspect is the motherboard itself.

You mean it boots w/ the old card? What model is that? (And which model/vendor is the GT710?)

Will look more into this more tomorrow. But the old card boots fine so that that might exclude a power supply issue. One thing though, the old card has it's own power supply directly from the PSU though, while the new card is getting power exclusively via the motherboard. Does this matter?

Yes it boots with the old card. It's AMD Radeon HD 5970 card. You mean which manufacturer? For the GT710 its Asus.

Probably. That's why I asked for model and vendor (ie. "ASUS FrameSmasher 6100" or so to see the actual specs)

Check the mainboard manual, there's typically only one PCIe slot dedicated for the GPU and it will provide more current than the others. Ensure to use that one.
