Need a kernel 2.6.18rc6-mm1 pkg to install

Hi!

I've just bought a new 64bit PC, and of course i wanted to put arch64 on it, but unfortunatly it turns out my sata2 chipset (vt8237a) isn't supported in the kernel on the install cd, which means i can't install arch on the harddrive...
But all is not lost yet... In the current mm-patchset there is included a patch which should make the sata2 chipset work. If I could get my hand on a kernel 2.6.18rc6-mm1 pkg, I could hopefully replace the kernel on the install-cd with the patched kernel and install arch64 smile
But setting up a cross-compiler isn't all that easy, so if you have a working arch64, and a few moments free time, I'd be very grateful if you would build such a pkg and make it available via the web...
There is already an old pkg for mm which should help: http://archlinux.org/packages/3983/

Thanks...

That package is old. ..

I'm running 2.6.18-rc6 pathed .. atm would that do... although its a 32 bit kernel if you could see your drives maybe you could chroot in to install Arch64 (just a thought!)

Or if you point me to the patch you need I will built in in for you (2.6.18-rc6!)

Thanks for replying smile

I think i could install arch64 with 32bit kernel, but that would still leave me without a working kernel when i need to actually boot arch64...

The patch i need is the current mm patchset, more specific it is this patch, but i don't know if it will apply cleanly without the rest of the mm-patch.

Thanks again!

Well I can build kernel for you, but I need config, and other files. ... then I will upload & you can grab it

At the very least you need to be able to boot into Arch then you can build what you like....

Does install CD see your drives ... ?

Sounds great smile I've made a tar-ball which should make it alot easier (i hope). All you have to do is the run "makepkg" in the extracted folder and then it should create my needed pkg-file. You'll might need to run through some adjustments because of the desync in the config-file kernel version, but i hope you survive! Get the tarbal here.

No, the current install cd doesn't show the drive, which is why i need a newer kernel...

Thanks!

If you got a newer x86_64 config-file i guess it would be a better choice than mine! But if you could enable reiser4 in the config before building that would be great smile It should be a matter of inserting "CONFIG_REISER4_FS=m".
Btw, it shouldn't matter what current kernel you have, just that you're on a x86_64 box.

Thanks!

Hmm, i'm afraid it's a no-go then sad If you don't have a 64bit system (software and hardware), i dont think it will work...
Thanks anyway!
