Davinci Resolve 16 stable gets stuck on "Looking for control surface"

Hello! I installed Resolve properly, I think (get the zip from the Blackmagic website, then "install" the davinci-resolve AUR package).
when I first started it up, it walked me through a tour of the application, and made me set some settings, but afterwards, when it actually came to starting the program, the initial splash screen got stuck at "Looking for control service" for about 10 seconds, then crashed (the splash screen just faded away).
I'm using KDE Plasma. This problem occurs with many users, even on windows, but the solution is always some oddly specific setting or helper program, and it's different for everybody. So I'm kindly asking for any help to try and figure out what my problem may be.
This is the output of running /opt/resolve/bin/resolve from terminal:

Re: Davinci Resolve 16 stable gets stuck on "Looking for control surface"

Hello, I was also unable to start up Davinci Resolve about a month ago. But I was able to fix it by doing some reading on: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/view … 21&t=56878

In particular, make sure that you do not have any missing libraries by typing the following:

ldd /opt/resolve/bin/resolve | grep not

If that command reports any "not found" libraries, try to install them.

I am experiencing the same issue but all the dependanies seem to be there according to `ldd`.

Atyafi: were you able to get it working?

Re: Davinci Resolve 16 stable gets stuck on "Looking for control surface"

Hi uberben, yes, I've got it working, but it's far from perfect. First of all, the link funnypigrun sent is full of great troubleshooting advice (Thank you, btw!). but that wasn't the problem I encountered. Please read the wiki article on DaVinci Resolve, it basically says that you must have proprietary OpenCL and OpenGL drivers installed, and may even have to uninstall the FOSS ones.
So, I did that, rebooted, and now Resolve works, or at least, starts. Also, please make a timeshift or some other backup beforehand, just in case.
Next issue: No window boarders. You can't resize it, close it, it just doesn't show the buttons. This issue can be avoided on KDE though, you can force window boarders there (sucks for me, I switched to Gnome...).
Well, good luck!

@Atyafi Sorry to bother, but I'm having trouble getting Resolve to boot- stuck at the same "looking for control surface" screen. Can you go into more detail about what you had to do? I know it was a bit ago. What are the proprietary drivers that I need to have?

Re: Davinci Resolve 16 stable gets stuck on "Looking for control surface"

@rjhilgefort --

I was having what seems, based on the above posts, to be the same problem. Was able to solve it by installing log4cxx from the AUR repository - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/log4cxx-git/ .
Then I rebooted, and to my joy everything seems to be up and running.

I wish I knew the inner workings more fully here to offer more technical assistance, but I'm just learning Arch as I go.
Given the above errors though, I'd give log4cxx a try-- .

Some people seem to be having trouble with their integrated graphics too-- they have to go into the BIOS and disable that thing.
For me that wasn't an issue but I've seen it come up in similar problem chats on the Davinci / Linux boards.

Anyway good luck, it's pretty satisfying when it works.

Hello, I had the same issue and got it working by using the progl prefix after using davinci-resolve-checker, it should check if the necessary drivers are installed
