I recently updated Xorg and when I restarted X everything worked just fine. But when I opened Firefox and scrolled up and down (with mouse or scroll bar) the current page scrolled very slow and painful. First I though is was a Firefox only problem, but when I opened Rox and Opera they had the same problem. I did some search on Google, and ArchLinux but I could not find a solution.
Pleas can someone help me with my problem?

I'm not quite sure, but it could be a video driver problem... Are they working correctly ?

How can I check that? When I close the x environment, I don't see anything that could be caused by a drive problem.

I have the same problem.
To minimize the "unpleasant" effect I disabled "smood scroll" in firefox. I noticed however that the problem in present in other apps too like Quanta. I suppose (hope ;-) )that it will be fixed soon.

try to disable any composite extension in your xorg.conf and see if that helps.
also, what's your video card ?
and take a look here : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … highlight=
what goes up must come down

I already disable "smood scroll", unfortunately it didn't help (but thx anyway)
I have a ati (x300) card, and according to hwd the VGA compatible controller is vesa realtek.

Has anyone tried using the vendor provided binary drivers to see if the problem is with all drivers or just the xorg ones?
Edit: I just updated to 7.1.1 myself and using the nvidia proprietary drivers it all looks fine. I do have a rather strange black square when I browse to the Arch forums from my homepage though. If anything, things seem faster and less choppy.

I had a similar problem with nvidia binary drivers and xorg 7.0 (and 7.1). Font rendering was really slow... and then I discovered I had sub-pixel antialiasing on. Googled a bit, and found a thread in the NV forums about the problem and how font sub-pixel antialiasing is not accelerated. It appears to be about 1000x slower than normal gray antialiasing.

I have the same problem. I use a vesa driver on a S3 pro savage, and after updating to xorg 7.1 scrolling is very slow and flickring, also the movment of the windows has the same effect.
I would have try the original driver but that one on the repository is XFree86 and I don't want to comile from source.
I didn't had had any of these problems before...

I have installed and configured the ati-drive on my computer and now I don't have any problems anymore with the scrolling or anything else. So I advice you to install the official ati or nvidia drives if you have a ati or nvidia cart. I also advice you to read the following pages:http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg and especially: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg7
I hope this informations is as helpful to you as it was to me.
