Logitech M535 Bluetooth Mouse Disconnecting Periodically [SOLVED]

I recently purchased a Logitech M535 bluetooth mouse. It works well for the most part, but periodically it stops working while I'm using it. There's no fixed period of time, and it doesn't ever seem to disconnect while it's idle, it just stops registering movements mid-stroke. I tried following the tips in this article but none of them seem to help. At first, I thought the issue was the mouse so I would disconnect and reconnect it. Then, I realized that all I had to do was open a terminal and run bluetoothctl, then turn scan on. This fixes the issue every time, and if I leave it running in the background the mouse never freezes. This makes me wonder if the issue is with my chip, rather than the mouse. I couldn't find any article or post that described this particular issue, so I figured I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions.

Here's bluetoothctl's output when the issue happens:

[CHG] Device E4:22:A5:93:B3:6A Connected: yes
[CHG] Device E4:22:A5:93:B3:6A Connected: no

Here's a sample of what I see when I run bluetoothctl then turn scan on, which immediately resolves the issue:

Re: Logitech M535 Bluetooth Mouse Disconnecting Periodically [SOLVED]

A few months ago I had failure of both hard disks in my laptop. Since I reinstalled Arch on the new system disk I have never been able to use my trusty bluetooth mouse that I've been using for a few years :-(

All PCI devices, apart from the networking (Atheros) are Intel.

I'm not sure this is the same issue I'm experiencing. Might be worth creating a separate post?

Re: Logitech M535 Bluetooth Mouse Disconnecting Periodically [SOLVED]

I decided to play with the settings in /etc/bluetooth/main.conf and setting AlwaysPairable to true may have resolved the issue. I'm curious whether this will have any detrimental effects? I can't find a lot of information about that particular setting, and I'm not familiar enough with bluetooth verbeage to understand the statement "Always allow pairing even if there are no agent registered." Does this mean that anyone could theoretically connect to my computer using bluetooth, without me having the opportunity to decline?

EDIT: Never mind, it took longer than usual but still eventually stopped communicating.

Re: Logitech M535 Bluetooth Mouse Disconnecting Periodically [SOLVED]

I've come up with a basic workaround: a script that contains

#!/bin/bash
# bluetooth mouse
bluetoothctl -- scan on

that's set to run on startup and every 15 minutes thereafter. Occasionally the mouse stalls but then it gets re-recognized by the chip, which is constantly scanning. I'm not sure what effect this will have on the battery life, so if anyone has any insight into why it's disconnecting in the first place I'd appreciate it.

Re: Logitech M535 Bluetooth Mouse Disconnecting Periodically [SOLVED]

I think I've finally found the solution on this hard-to-find Reddit post.

From the post:

The fix that did work was to add the parameter "btusb.enable_autosuspend=0" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub and then running update-grub.

I will mark this as solved if my mouse continues to work without interruption for the rest of the day.

EDIT: This has indeed solved the issue so I have marked this as resolved.
