minecraft on arch linux

Hello,
I'm planning on buying a new computer to play minecraft on it with archlinux installed.
I give you the specs:

processor: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Quad-Core 3.6GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Processor
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics Card
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz DDR4 Memory (1 x 8GB)
+1 SSD.

My questions are:
-What fps would it be on minecraft java edition?
-Can discord run on it?
-Does the standard tutorial for installing arch linux work with this?

Thanks

Re: minecraft on arch linux

I haven't played Minecraft in a long time, that being said, your specs should be fine. If I might make a suggestion, if you can afford it, get 2 x 8 GB RAM @ 3200Mhz. The RAM freq makes a considerable difference for Ryzen processors and if you are planning on playing with a lot of mods and you can't really go wrong with 16GB of RAM. Plus, you'll be making use of dual channel for memory. Now, it looks like you're on a tight budget and I can appreciate that, but if you truly are just going to play Minecraft only, you could probably save some money getting a Ryzen 3400G and forego the graphics card.

As for the rest of your questions:
-Don't expect miracles but it'll be fine
-Yes
-Yes

Re: minecraft on arch linux

Ok, many thanks!
I have one little question: What do you mean with "it'll be fine"? You know I want to use it with other apps running at the same time, so it would be nice to know precisely (anyway 30 fps with around 10 other apps at same time would be by far okay)
Thanks for your quick answer anyway!

This depends on what you're doing at the same time there's not really a general answer. I second the suggestion 8GB can be a bit tight, especially if the "10 other apps" will all be electron clients/other RAM hogs.

Re: minecraft on arch linux

Like I said I haven't played the game in a long, long time. I know some mods for optimization have come out since then but I'm not sure how they exactly work. In any case, after some googling it looks like you'd get 60fps+ so I don't see a problem. Maybe less if you run a lot of mods or are in an end game kind of situation. Then again, if the specs you posted are any indication, you are under a tight budget restraint, in which case you don't have a lot of options.

Also, the "10 or so apps" is really relative on the app, but 16 GB really sounds like a must in this case.
