Help on a simple procmail setup

Hi everyone,

I would like to complete a simple setup to unify all my email accounts under something like this: (freepops or pop3) --> getmail -> procmail -> muttng --> msmtp

I have done everything else but am having trouble understanding that crazy procmail config file. Basically, what I want is simply that mail sent to my 5 different accounts get sent to different folders in the inbox. The difficulty here is that I can't just use something like that:

:0:
* ^To: hotsauce@hotsauce.com
$MAILDIR/hotsauce/

Because the messages I get from lists that are not directly adressed to that email it won't sort them. Also my uni email gets forwarded to my gmail. They don't offer pop. So if it would also be possible to sort the emails from the gmail pop that are there from the university adress and from the gmail one, that would be very cool also.

Thanks a lot for all your time and trouble!

Vince

Edit:
Also, do you know of a dockable mail-notification utility that can monitor subfolders for new email files?

Edit #2: KBiff fits the bill...

Re: Help on a simple procmail setup

When you are reading a mail in mutt, just press 'h' to see all the fields (also the ignored fields according to your muttrc) you can use in your procmail configuration.
In the case of mailing lists, the field Delivered-To: includes generally the final destination (i.e., your mail address).

About the forarded mail, you can certainly find an appropriate field with the above method. In my case, I have a yahoo account forwarded to my gmail account. If I want to write a recipe for the yahoo mail, I have a X-Yahoo-Forwarded: field, but this is obviously yahoo specific, so you have to inspect directly your mail to find the sound one.

I have seperate mailing list rules.  It's probably easier just to ignore the actual account, and seperate based on lists.
If you want generic rules that automatically creates mailboxes for a mailing list when the first mail arrives, check here:

Re: Help on a simple procmail setup

Thank you both for your replies. Unfortunately, the fields don't seem to be consistent between emails, even to the same address. I think I'll just forget about separating from within a mailbox and just send them all to the same folder as phrakture recommended.

By the way, I had watched your configs already and would just like to thank you for making those available. I think stuff like this is often much more helpful than pages of manuals. Great that people like you make them available

Thanks again to all who read!
