I can't stand too many key combination so when first I tried linux some years ago I went with vi, and I have to say that there's been nothing that has made me regret that choice
To get something done, a committee should consist of no more than three persons, two of them absent.

Vim is good, but I haven't managed to get the hang of working with multiple buffers in it. I use Emacs when I code because the buffers feel much more solid to me. Plus it's got Slime for Lisp code (not that this is at all on topic).

Emacs is nice system but there's no good text editor

I use emacs for 2 reasons.
1) C^x C^s is so quick I can save my work without interupting my typing, even in the middle of a word. I save a lot.
2) I can't remember most keyboard commands (only about 20) so I just use M^x and tab complete. There isn't a single keyboard command that I've run into I can't just M^x away.
Everyone else I know uses vim, but I never could get passed: "esc shift : w enter i" just to save my work and continue typing. And now one of the few emacs fanboys in Arch has spoken :-)

I also love apropos.
Having a programmable text editor is like god-mode for coding.

I just can't see doing C-t-a-s-j-h-l-x or something like that.

You must be very special then because "letters" has 7

Looks like we aren't going to have any non-religious replies to this thread anymore. I hope the original question was answered satisfactorily. If not: Try them both, use the one you prefer.
To the zealots, there are two types of people in this world: those that prefer emacs and those that prefer vim. You'll never be able to convince one to use the other, and why should you bother, you're both happy.
