Is anyone else experiencing this?
The mentioned upgrade has as a consequence that the nvidia driver is no longer matched by X, and therefore X terminates immidiately with a fatal server error.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log reveals that nvidia is no longer matched as an autoconfigured driver. The string "nvidia" is no longer anywhere in the log.
Downgrading to the previous 5.9.10.arch1-1 kernel version makes X match nvidia again, and thus makes X work again, and the X log reflects this, but of course this is not a fix/solution.
Only the packages "linux" and "hidapi" were upgraded, and given that downgrading just the kernel makes X match nvidia again, I asume there may be a problem with the latest kernel in relation to the nvidia package.
Everything is up to date (except for the now downgraded kernel).
Any ideas how to fix/further problem solve this?
Best regards

If you didn't receive nvidia 455.45.01-4 together with that update then that was a partial update situation and points to your mirrors being broken. Double check your mirrors and use ones that have a low delay time and low score as mentioned in https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status/#successful and being close to your location.

Uh-oh, I missed that small "-4" on the nvidia package.
The installed version is "-2".
Thank you, V1del, for bringing that to my attention.
I update my mirrorlist as you suggest, at least once a week, using the official Arch mirrorlist generator page.
I guess that's not a bullet proof way to ensure a sound upgrade at all times.
I'll wait for the newest nvidia package to show up on the mirrors I use, and mark this topic as solved, when I see that it works.
Thanks again ![]()

Problem solved by "manually" generating a new mirrorlist using the mirrorlist generator on https://www.archlinux.org/mirrorlist/
I will have to change my mirrorlist update policy from updating weekly + whenever pacman-mirrorlist is upgraded.
Clearly that is not a bullet proof policy.
Thank you, once again, V1del, for the help ![]()

My strategy is to just pick one or two mirrors that have a good track record and are close to my location. I haven't had the need to manually fiddle with this in years and I can't recall any issues like this.

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago. nvidia was updated, but the requisite new kernel was not. Switching mirrors fixed it.

Same for me.
