Questions regarding Optimus/Prime with Steam

hi arch community, newbie here,

I'm using Arch on an old XPS L502X (2011) with Intel HD 3000 + GeForce GT525M.
I opted to use nouveau drivers, bc I read about nvidias problems with kernel 5.9 and on nvidia homepage that any driver is affected so probably also 390xx legacy drivers which I would need.
I created a script to activate Prime GPU offloading which I put in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/ - seems to work when testing with DRI_Prime=1 glxinfo command.

I want to use nvidia graphics when starting a game in steam. that game has had some graphical glitches.
I have put "DRI_PRIME=1" into Launch Options of Steam. I could not see any change, still the same glitches.

Q1: Does that environment variable work in launch options? Will the prefix fail if steam "play" loads another game launcher before the game starts?
Q2: Do I have to start a program from command line with DRI_Prime=1 prepending when I want to use nvidia graphics card?
Q3: Is there a way to check whether a program/process is using the nvidia graphics card?
Q4: Does Linux switch to nvidia graphics automatically when needed, if I use the default Intel/modesetting driver with DRI3 enabled?
