Black Screen after installing NVIDIA GT730 card for 3rd monitor

Hello,

I just installed an NVIDIA ASUS GeForce GT730 graphics card, for the purpose of being able to add a 3rd monitor I just purchased today.  The system was running fine before with 2 monitors, but now I'm stuck with a black screen.  As per the Arch Wiki instructions, I upgraded my system successfully (pacman -Syu), before I installed the 'nvidia' package, and then rebooted.  Upon everything working fine with my 2 monitors, I then connected the 3rd monitor and rebooted to a black screen.  At this point, I did the following (in order):

1) researched the Arch Wiki, and many forums, as a result tried blacklisting the Intel GPU modules, as per: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … grated_GPU

2) Got a black screen when rebooting, even if I unplug the 3rd monitor from the NVIDIA card (now the monitors don't even power on during boot).

3) I then tried to "arch-chroot" using my old bootable Arch ISO USB, but it will not boot from USB (tried pressing F10 / escape to get boot menu, unsuccessfully).

4) I made a new Arch ISO USB with the latest version, using my laptop and "dd" method.  Also doesn't boot.

* My computer was a Windows 10 desktop (model:  HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Intel Core i5) with native Intel HD Graphics 530 card.

I'm stuck, and in the middle of an important project.  Would really appreciate any help.   Thanks in advance.

Re: Black Screen after installing NVIDIA GT730 card for 3rd monitor

I think you have two different problems. If it were me, I would first try to find out why your device will not boot with the new Arch ISO USB. Because (IMO) that is not related to the title of this question, you might have better results to create a new question and focus on that. It doesn't seem like you will be able to do proper troubleshooting until you can boot with a USB.

Once you can boot from the USB, try adding the nomodset kernel command line parameter to the installed boot loader. I sometimes use all these parameters when troubleshooting nvidia proprietary driver black screen on boot issues:

nomodeset nouveau.modeset=0 rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1

Hi, this makes a lot of sense and I will create a new question.  Thanks.

If there's any other advice from anyone else, i'll still monitor this post also.
