[SOLVED] MATE panel:Several Applets "quits unexpectedly"

For the last day or two, I've had an issue with using the bottom panel on my desktop. I have the MATE panel installed as my UI and if I switch windows by clicking or even just hovering over the windows in the bottom panel, I get a number of errors from a handful of applets saying they "quit unexpectedly". I can switch windows without issue using CTRL+Tab and the error does execute a prompt window to ask "Reload" or "Don't Reload", but even if I hit "Reload", the error persists when trying to switch windows afterward, so I'd prefer to resolve the issue itself.

The applets specified are:

  • Workspace Switcher

  • Show Desktop

  • Window List

I've tried finding the packages associated with these applets, reinstalling them and rebooting, but it hasn't changed the outcome.

I've tried disabling the software compositing window manager, but that hasn't changed anything either.

I've tried checked the logs in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log files, but I didn't see anything in there to do with MATE or the applets in question.

Any advice would be appreciated.

As suggested on Github, a temporary workaround is to downgrade cairo to 1.17.2+25+gaee96d175-1.

That seems to have solved the issue. Thanks lquidfire.
