USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

I just updated arch and rebooted, now none of my usb devices work. I haven't changed any configs in the mean-time. Everything was working prior to the upgrade.

Kernel: 5.9.11-arch2-1
Desktop Environment: I3-gaps

All of my devices show up with lsusb:

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Ok, sudo I did find that running "sudo startx" will actually allow the mouse/keyboard to work for some reason.

Normally I am starting with just a "startx". So I should actually have adjusted my first post. I can get keyboard to login and "startx" when the system first boots. After that I am not able to use keyboard/mouse. As you said, it must be something with X11? I haven't changed anything before upgrade though so I'm not sure what it could be.

My .xinitrc looks like this:

exec i3 -c /home/thewooster/.config/i3/config

exec "xset -dpms"
exec --no-startup-id nitrogen --restore
exec "xset -dpmsxset s off"

Also my i3-config. Nothing to special in there:

# It will not be overwritten, so edit it as you like.
#
# Should you change your keyboard layout some time, delete
# this file and re-run i3-config-wizard(1).
#

# i3 config file (v4)

Also nb. that nothing after the first "exec" line in your xinitrc is executed.

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Hmmm, ok I apologize if I'm not following correctly.

So I tried a couple of things:

cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc

to see if I could get mouse/keyboard with a basic session. Session started, but still no mouse/keyboard sad

I then tried the same thing but added my exec to the bottom of .xinitrc:

exec i3 -c /home/thewooster/.config/i3/config

and I have the same results as before.

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Do you still have stuff like

[ 2321.815] (II) event4: opening input device '/dev/input/event4' failed (Permission denied).

in your xorg log?

What's the output of "loginctl session-status" and what does your updated xinitrc look like?

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Output of loginctl session-status:

 done
 unset f

exec i3 -c /home/thewooster/.config/i3/config

I don't see any such errors in my Xorg logs.

PS I've tried uninstalling/re-installing nvidia as well as using linux-lts with no luck. I reverted those changes though.

**EDIT** - I also have apparmor enabled in the kernel, but I don't think that should matter?

apparmor=1 security=apparmor

Why isn't this a local shell?

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

That's because I'm ssh-ing from my laptop. Since I can't get my keyboard/mouse to work with my desktop I'm ssh-ing to troubleshoot. If I run the same command from my desktop without doing "startx" here is the output:

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Hmmm…

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Us … ser_groups
check eg.

getfacl /dev/input/event4

- does it belong to the "input" group?
Add yourself to that group.
=> Does input now work?

Then re-check getfacl from the (local) X11 session - does your user now have r/w access as well?

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

NICE!!!!

I Added my user to the Input group, logged out and back in, now I have input!

Just for thoroughness here is the output of getfacl /dev/input/event4

# file: dev/input/event4
# owner: root
# group: input
user::rw-
group::rw-
other::---

Thank you for all your help! I was a bit stumped smile.

Re: USB Devices Stopped working After upgrade [SOLVED]

Can you please check whether you've an active session on the same terminal w/ X11?
In doubt, try to adjust the xserverrc, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinit#xserverrc because this isn't how it's supposed to be (it's not bad, but there might be a bug)
