Design of the wiki

Hi,

the design of the official arch wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/ looks a bit messy compared to its german counterpart http://wiki.archlinux.de/?title=Hauptseite. As far as I know, both use mediawiki, so it wouldn't be that difficult to change the theme.

Re: Design of the wiki

I seem to remember the Arch wiki having a more simple look when we first migrated to mediawiki.

Re: Design of the wiki

Yea, I agree...the them on the German counterpart with the boxes on the side look better. More clean like you said...

Re: Design of the wiki

If you have a wiki account you could try switching to a different theme in your preferences. And don't forget about the "Remember me" checkbox upon login.

Re: Design of the wiki

No one of the other themes supports the unified header of the archlinux.org hompage family.

Re: Design of the wiki

You can download my theme from my repository at  http://svn.laber-land.de/archlinux.de/trunk/wiki/skins/ (You will need the Archlinux*.php files and the archlinux folder)

Re: Design of the wiki

If I'm right, Pierre has created the theme for the german wiki.
Pierre, would you agree that the archlinux.org wiki uses your theme?
If yes, I'll file a bug report.

Re: Design of the wiki

Sure you are allowed. This is not really my design; I just put it together with monobook as base.

Re: Design of the wiki

I've detected a minor bug:

Look at the search field, I think it has something to to with min-width, but I couldn't identify the responsible style sheet.

Here can you find the bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/5382

Re: Design of the wiki

Which browser do you use? This problem does not affect current versions of firefox, konqueror or opera.

Re: Design of the wiki

I use version 1.5.0.6 of firefox, but I've set my minimal font size to 13, with 12 there's no problem.

Re: Design of the wiki

Ok that should be the problem. Best value for this should be 10.

Re: Design of the wiki

An answer to this post:
I tried to fix it in IE 6 but no success. Take a look at changes related to #column-one, .portlet, #p-cactions and #p-navigation that were made comparing to original MediaWiki theme.

Re: Design of the wiki

The german one looks much nicer too bad i can read german. lol

I think the side bar should have the howto categorys in it. My shortcut to the wiki goes straight to the howto section.
The side bar at the moment is way too clutered.

Re: Design of the wiki

I would be happy if someone find a way how to get it displayed right in ie. But I think this is no fun and I think there are only very few people who are browsing an linux-wiki with ie (except the spam-bots ;-))
