Problems with 3D apps with NVIDIA after recent updates

Suddenly I noticed that after one of the recent updates everything with 3D became 0.5 FPS (slow like software renderer), for example Blender. KWin effects also disappeared, though CUDA is working fine, and nvidia-settings show that RTX 2070 is connected and working. I have Arch with KDE, NVIDIA card (2070), Intel Core i5 CPU. Everything was fine few days ago.

This is the output of lscpi -k

Re: Problems with 3D apps with NVIDIA after recent updates

Do you have a custom xorg config? Post it if so and the full log rather than a snippet, and in general you need to ensure that the

 ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia/xorg"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"

lines from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf file are loaded, either by explicitly mentioning them in your config setting up nvidia or implicitly by simply extending the existing OutputClass

Maybe more generally also throw in

pacman -Qs nvidia

Re: Problems with 3D apps with NVIDIA after recent updates

Well, I already found a solution, I reinstalled linux together with nvidia from pacman. This solved a problem. I found these topics helpful:

Well, it seems that problem now occurs randomly after rebooting. If I reinstall linux package it disapeares, but next day it might be broken again. Here is the full log:

Re: Problems with 3D apps with NVIDIA after recent updates

Either add the two lines I mentioned to the Files section in that config.

Or don't use nvidia-xconfig, that's what happens if you use that, remove the xorg.conf, The only thing you "actually" care about is the Composition pipeline. So do a configuration adjusting just that.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia-force-composition.conf

Section "OutputClass"
    Identifier "nvidia"
    MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
    Option "ForceCompositionPipeline" "true"
    Option "ForceFullCompositionPipeline" "true"
EndSection

While this is the issue in the present log, there's also a chance for race conditions during boot on when the graphics driver is ready (and linux not really having a mechanism for reliably advertising that), in which case you will want to add the relevant kernel modules to your initramfs: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … de_setting (the parameter isn't strictly needed, but the adding and generating (... and the pacman hook) to mkinitcpio.conf

Re: Problems with 3D apps with NVIDIA after recent updates

I take that the solution you found was incorrect. Read what v1del wrote and follow it. Here's the post you may like to follow https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=258201

I also doubt this will help but maybe also read into this, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … er_version

edit: removed section after reading comment above.
