i use xfce-svn and yesterday updated to the ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-1 pkg. when i restarted the system i no problems the 1st time but then the 2nd i got the tiny fonts thing which i corrected by adding
DisplaySize 269 201 # 96 DPI @ 1024x768
to the monitor section of xorg.conf as stated on the wiki
even though most of the settings came back to normal , in the xfce settings section the font is huge and the window takes up almost all the width of the screen

also the fonts on firefox look totally different even tho i didnt change anything on the settings. most letters seem thin and hard to read in compare to before the upgrade.why did the font upgrade alter them?
$ xdpyinfo | grep -A 1 dim
dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (271x202 millimeters)
resolution: 96x97 dots per inch

Change the font size in 'User Interface' settings (which sets the gtk+ font). The 'title font' that you're showing in the screenshot only applies to the window manager font.
As for firefox, read here.

thx for the firefox part. that worked great.
as for the 1st issue, i know what title font is about. its just that on most of the xfce settings is where the fonts are that big. it didnt use to be that big before the upgrade. if i change the user interface settings all fonts will become smaller and i dont want that cause they are the same size as they were before the upgrade.
just take a look at the following screenshot. arent the two windows suppose to have the same font?!?

finally managed to solve this by adding
Xft.dpi: 96
to ~/.config/xfce4/Xft.xrdb
