[!UNAVAIL=return] unable to solve host name [solved]

Hi every-one,

Last, month I got a new laptop and a pretty strange issue while installing Arch...

ping x.x.x.x

was working well

but:

ping www.host.com
ping: unknown host ................

After some digging, I found that many ARM users were facing this on Arch-ARM with Raspberry-based computers.
And those people solved this by editing /etc/nsswitch.conf,

this line

hosts: files mymachines myhostname resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns

becoming:

hosts: files mymachines myhostname resolve dns

Does someone know the purpose of that line?
The manpage indicates that default value for UNAVAIL is  «continue»....

I don't know networks very well, but I guess that the ISO would not contain a customized config
unless some reason exists.

Can some-one, please, explain ?

No problem, however, please don't use "closed" in your topic title, use e.g. "[solved]" instead: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ow_to_post
