[SOLVED] Stellaris Won't Start From Steam Client After System Update

I updated my system and now Stellaris won't start from Steam. However, it will start from the command line. I tried reinstalling both the game and Steam with no success. I have another game that works just fine this way.

If I run Stellaris from the command line, the game starts.

This works:

~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Stellaris/stellaris

However, if I launch Steam, select Stellaris, and press "Play", the game exits.

Any suggestions?

Here is the log output:

Re: [SOLVED] Stellaris Won't Start From Steam Client After System Update

I have exactly the same problem and it seems to be related to some recent Arch update, not the game itself or it's launcher. I've contacted Paradox technical support, and after trying some not working suggestions I've got this reply

AndrewT
Monday at 23:55
I now have about 12 reports of our launcher not starting on Arch Linux, all within the last week. As neither the game nor launcher changed at that time, there must have been an Arch update or change to cause this.

I've not yet found a fix or workaround for this, I am sorry! Because Arch is not a supported distro (only Ubuntu is) I can't escalate it either, so we're basically reliant on some skilled Arch user finding a way of working around it. Is that something you might be able to do, or do you have access to Arch support resources who may be able to help?

Yours Sincerely
Andrew T

Any hints what is the reason for this?

Re: [SOLVED] Stellaris Won't Start From Steam Client After System Update

Have no problem running the game from Steam client.
Last full system updated 2020-12-12 & OS rebooted.
kernel: 5.4.82-1-lts
vga: GeForce GTX 1650 - running nvidia drivers v455.45.01-1

Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Well, the kernel could be the problem.

P.S. Complete re-installation of Stellaris seemed to work for me. Verifying game's files didn't.

This seems to be working now. Not sure what the problem was. I didn't reinstall the game.
