Whether sound is coming through VLC or my browser, sound is reduced to mono output.
Also, whether I plug into my PC case's headphone jack or the HDMI monitor's jack, I have mono output.
One thing I find strange is that when I use pavucontrol and split one of the audio sources into two channels (front left and front right), I can floor the sound of the front right channel with no change in volume (in either channel). Volume is only changed when I adjust the front left channel.
I'm at a bit of a loss on what to do, as the troubleshooting pulseaudio page on the wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … leshooting) seems to cover more specific issues.
From previous posts I'd seen, using aplay -l:

Adding to this: When using Clementine, when adjusting the front left and front right channels through pavucontrol, the results are different. rather than one of the channels having full control over the volume (while the other does nothing), adjusting these two changes the sound, but the sound coming through still comes through each headphone. I.e., the stereo tracks are still preserved and adjusted, but something along the way ends up producing mono output.
Also, when adjusting the L-R balance in Clementine's EQ, the same sort of thing happens (the track still comes through both headphones, but the L or R channels are adjusted in the mono output (volume of sound is still mostly the same on both headphones though).
I'm not sure if this makes sense, really. I'm finding difficulty explaining it. Any help is greatly appreciated here.

There's nothing suggesting mono on the software side in any of these outputs. Double check your headphones on a device you know "should work" i.e. a phone or so
Maybe also try something more direct, without anything else playing, what do you get for
speaker-test -c2 -Dhw:1? You should hear white noise once in each channel.

For the speaker test, the output is
speaker-test 1.2.4
Playback device is hw:1
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 1048576
Period size range from 32 to 524288
Using max buffer size 1048576
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 262144
was set buffer_size = 1048576
0 - Front Left
1 - Front Right
Time per period = 10.929837
0 - Front Left
1 - Front Right
Time per period = 10.929042
0 - Front Left
1 - Front RightThis is strange, because here, it splits into left and right signals fine, and switched off between the two channels just fine.
But, using Clementine, the signal isn't split - as well as VLC and Brave (or, the stereo tracks are not preserved when being sent out). Stereo audio is taken and made into a mono signal.

pacmd list-sink-inputsduring a relevant playback attempt? None of these three things really have anything in common regarding output libraries, so either something within pulse is broken here on a sink level (... would be weird) or all your inputs are incidentally configured for mono

Is there an interface other than pavucontrol that might show some more detailed information on audio sources and their outputs to headphones/speakers?
Offline
The command I asked for. Pavucontrol would show these as well but require some clicking and the like, for what I'm trying to check now you'd need to unbind the stereo channel combine on the sinks to check whether one is muted for some reason.

So on
speaker-test -c2 -Dhw:1the output was mono this time around, for some reason. I've no clue why, but it came out as
speaker-test 1.2.4
Playback device is hw:1
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise

was set buffer_size = 1048576Edit: I believe it could have something to do with having switched from monitor headphone output (Navi 10 HDMI Audio card) to the case's headphone output (Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller card).
Also, using pacmd list-sink-inputs during the speaker test just said zero sink inputs available. When listening to something through Brave, the output is
1 sink input(s) available.
