ranger video previews not working

Hello,

I am trying to get ranger video previews to work through ffmpegthumbnailer in a custom scope.sh file, however no preview is ever generated. Image previews function perfectly fine, however.

I've confirmed ffmpegthumbnailer does work if called manually through a shell.

I'm curious don't you get a preview (thumbnail) at all or did you expect to see a running video? or what did you expect?
FYI I do get a thumbnail of the video - only one!

ffmpegthumbnailer creates a single image from the video, so I should see an image of some frame in the video (not sure what frame ffmpegthumbnailer uses), but nothing shows up at all. The preview pane where the image should appear doesn't even show up, which makes me think ffmpegthumbnailer isn't being triggered at all.

Your config is no different than mine with one difference; you use 'ueberzug' I use 'w3m' for previews.

Another thing, you don't need to add 'set preview_script /home/terminus/.config/ranger/scope.sh' it's the default already.

BTW. without enabling the video part in 'scope' I still get a thumbnail.
Please have a look at  https://github.com/ranger/ranger/issues  also look in closed items for hints.

Strange, I tried switching to w3m, but that did not resolve the issue.

Nothing on the issues page seemed to show anything useful. I did try "urxvt" since I use that terminal, but that didn't work either. I'll open an issue and see what's up.

Ah, you use the git version, if you said that right away I could have tried..
I can confirm it won't work for me too with that version.
The one from community (1.9.3-3) works, at least for me it does.

Okay, for now let's continue the discussion here. I confess, I'm not that much of an environment monkey, but I'll try;) and hope someone joins the party.
Please give output for 'env' and how do you start ranger.
What is 'i3-sensible-terminal' set to?
You could also use something like 'bindsym $mod+Return exec --no-startup-id xterm' which is what I do..

BTW. I find it easiest and quickest way to determine if  things work to setup a pristine environment under a different user with just basic files, no complicated .zshrc, i3 config use startx etc.
So, mainly a basic user env.

edit: so don't use old config use new ones;)
