[SOLVED] Plasma task manager not showing any of the apps with an error

This morning I performed an update as usual and after that there was a power outage. Upon restarting the PC I got the following message and none of the applications I run show up in the task bar;

Error loading QML file: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.notifications/contents/ui/main.qml:108:37: Type CompactRepresentation unavailable
file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.notifications/contents/ui/CompactRepresentation.qml: Type Globals unavailable
file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.notifications/contents/ui/global/Globals.qml:32:1: plugin cannot be loaded for module "org.kde.taskmanager": Cannot load library /usr/lib/qt/qml/org/kde/taskmanager/libtaskmanagerplugin.so: (/usr/lib/libpipewire-0.3.so.0: file too short)

I remember there being a pipewire update and so I tried to downgrade it. But that doesn't seem to be possible due to some file conflict. I can provide more info if needed.

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Plasma task manager not showing any of the apps with an error

File too short usually means the file didn't get written properly, if the update seemed to go through correctly that points to file system corruption, potentially a broken/breaking harddisk in the worst case. Did you ensure pacman was actually finished with the upgrade before the reboot? How does your free space look like, what's your output for

smartctl -a /dev/sdX #where sdX is the drive of your root partition

Edit... I'm a moron and didn't read the power outage part. You need to rerun that update, in the hopes that it got written look into your /var/log/pacman.log, reinstall all packages mentioned there as part of the last transaction, if you do get "file exists in filesystem" errors see  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … )%22_error in doubt post the actual pacman output you get from attempting to reinstall things.

The pipewire file seems to be the same in the warning message. Can I just delete all these empty files and rerun the update?

Hey,

I did install the relevant packages (libldac webkit2gtk libopenaptx pipewire). Upon doing so I get the "failed to complete transaction, due to conflicting files" error. So, I checked the link you provided earlier (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … )%22_error). I ran a check on some files using "pacman -Qo" and none of them were owned by any packages. According to the wiki I am to now rename all of these files and rerun the update. The only problem is there are too many files, over a 100 if not 200. Do you know of a way for me to perform this activity in an efficient way? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Plasma task manager not showing any of the apps with an error

As mentioned in that same link pacman has an --overwrite flag, and this is a case where I'd consider using it.

Based on the above something like

pacman -S libldac webkit2gtk libopenaptx pipewire --overwrite usr/lib/lib*

if there are more than just in that directory you can also opt  for the shotgun

pacman -S libldac webkit2gtk libopenaptx pipewire --overwrite *

Hi,

I've finally fixed it. Thanks to you. The only slight issue I had with the above command was that glob somehow did not expand into every filename. This link (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/585 … -in-pacman) helped me fix it. All I needed to do, was use "--overwrite=*" instead.

Thanks again!

A whoops sorry, brain farted on the syntax.

But glad to hear please mark as [SOLVED] by editing the title in your first post.
