[SOLVED] Would like just XFCE desktop, no gnome or kde

hello

A year old Manjaro user, so still a newbie in Linux, running Xfce and love it

Yesterday I finally managed to install ARCH, took me all day but I got it up and running finally

My question is
I first installed gnome doing this before my first boot
# pacman -S xorg
# pacman -S gnome

and later when in gnome from terminal I did :
sudo pacman -S xfce4 xfce4-goodies (as I hate gnome, it's so (Disney / Mickey mouse looking / feeling)

If I reinstall again ( I don't mind reinstall all, it helps me learn) can I just  install Xfce (I tried it once but it didn't work, but maybe I did something wrong) without having to go through gnome ? if so would the following work, booting me into the desktop Xfce ? giving me a clean no gnome system ?
# pacman -S xorg
# pacman -S xfce4
# pacman -S xfce4-goodies

Many thanks

You should find all the help you need in the wiki.

Failing that, if you are still using Manjaro, expect a mod to be along shortly to close the thread.

Re: [SOLVED] Would like just XFCE desktop, no gnome or kde

This is how I do it:

sudo pacman -S xfce4 lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter

then

systemctl enable lightdm

and finally reboot.

If you want to use another login manager just change lightdm to what ever you want.
And also if you want to have any specific applications installed along with the desktop than go a head and add those.

Why is one not allowed to have two Linux ....... ?

That seems rather 'racist'.... or at least very unwelcoming to a new user

Re: [SOLVED] Would like just XFCE desktop, no gnome or kde

I think Roken was under the impression that you are asking about a Manjaro installation and Manjaro isn't supported because their users opted for Manjaro in order to not have to read the Arch wiki.
You're perfectly entitled to run as many distros as you want, but the forum is for archlinux that was *not* installed by "converting" a different distro or running a "simple" installer or following a dumb "install along" youtube video because you're requried and expected to have a basic understanding of the system in front of you. (archlinux32 and archlinxu arm are likewise not supported because, though terrific distros, they're not arch and you will often run into problems specific to those architecures that won't be reproduced nor understood by archlinux users - certainly if you don't disclose foreign the architecture)
