It is indeed the suse menu. There is a package for it in the AUR. If it will be included in the the future gnome 2 series, it will be included as an applet. like all other panel applets, so it will be easy to switch back to the original menu.
It would be interesting though to follow the development of USP, an Ubuntu community effort to create an alternative menu.

I just hope 2.14 -> 2.16 transition will be as smooth as the 2.12 -> 2.14 one
I can wait a over a month more just to devs time to get all the quirks right.

I personally can wait. It took me ages to find a distro like Arch so I'm happy for now with 2.14.

Forgive my ignorance but shouldn't taking the old pkgbuilds from abs and changing the version numbers etc. work on "most" packages? the worst that could happen is that we get an error, in which case we can keep a record and help the "main" devs get started? The reason for the delay is that they are busy, I am sure they would appreciate a little help.
Am I overlooking something?
