[Solved] Gnome-software vs pacman

Hello,

I am confused. Gnome-Software shows me updates but all is up-to-date according to pacman. How can I prevent Gnome-Software from annoying me with updates? I want pacman to take care of my system.

1. Read the Code of Conduct and don't post oversized screenshots: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cod … s_and_code

2. Read the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … ng_updates

Re: [Solved] Gnome-software vs pacman

OK I have already found flatpak and realized the fact that some components are installed in both repos (pacman & platpak). Flatpak packages won't influence the system and are used only by applications installed using flatpak. Is that correct?

1. Screenshot removed

2. Wiki read.

But my problem is actually that I misunderstood the wiki. It says "By default gnome-software will download updated packages from the Arch Linux repositories.". So does pacman. If both use the same repo, how come that some updates are in gnome-software and some updates are in pacman and those updates are not the same. I don't want to stop updates. I of course want updates. But I was confused that pacman says that everything is up-to-date and GS shows pending updates.

Just set the dconf setting. I have no idea how gnome works, but it has no business having anything to do with package management on Arch.

Re: [Solved] Gnome-software vs pacman

The line in the wiki means "by default gnome does stupid" - it doesn't mean that it doesn't *also* fetch from different sources (ie. eg. flatpak) "by default".

If you "want pacman to take care of my system", you can just  "pacman -Rs gnome-software"…

Re: [Solved] Gnome-software vs pacman

You are expected to read the output of pacman when using it. Using gnome-software would defeat that purpose, meaning that probably you will miss an important notice and will have a missbehaving or broken system.

Yup. I know. I use pacman in terminal, but the problem was that pacman told me that everything is up-to-date, while gnome-software was nagging about updates.

I have solved this by removing everything that I have installed by gnome-software. Then I did uninstall gnome software.

Thanks for your help. But the wiki should mention the flatpak subsystem IMHO.

Then please update the Wiki! It's a community-driven system that only works if people like you work on it. Many of us don't use GNOME, but do it for those that do use it.

Re: [Solved] Gnome-software vs pacman

Gnome software uses packagekit and its backend for pacman. So, both should tell you the same, that repository packages are up to date.
But, Gnome software doesn't manage only software from pacman repositories, but flatpak and snap packages too as well as serving as a client for extensions.gnome.org.
I predict with 95% certainty that it's some gnome-shell extension that has an update and that's why you get notifications.
