It certainly does evil things here, like freezing my xsession (or killing it and bringing me back to the KDM logon screen) and locking devices and partitions.
Reverting back to 0.5.7-2 everything seems fine, and working.
No bad user settings- it also happens with a new user, and not a KDE glitch, as it also happened with Fluxbox.
Also- one time out of two hal would fail to startup at boot.

Not a single problem here. The only change made to hal 0.5.7.1 compared to 0.5.7 is that they increased some message buffer sizes to match kernel 2.6.18 and the latest versions of udev.

I have no Problems with the new HAL version

Likely a bad installation, as after reinstalling it's (ATM) working OK. Thanks for the input, flagged as solved.

My Hal has been acting up too, I am still trying some things to pin the problem, but it refuses to mount CD/DVDs in Kde

same issues here. plug in my usb mp3 player and it says: feature only availabe with HAL.
tried to restart HAL:
etc/rc.d/hal restart
:: Stopping Hardware Abstraction Layer [FAIL]
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer [FAIL]
Don't know what to do.
