[SOLVED]Random system freeze.

Hello everyone,

I am having an issue which I am unable to solve by myself.. At random times my system is crashing, with the screen freezing with no artifacts and with no way to get into tty and my only solution is to hard reset the system (power button)

I am not quite sure which log files are needed so here are some, btw I am using nvidia drivers for my GTX1050ti.

I don't see an obvious "smoking gun" in either of those logs. Is this a fresh install or could it be a recent kernel or driver update you could roll back from?

Not sure tbh. I think I can narrow it out to the recent nvidia driver incompatibilities with the latest kernel, but AFAIK this was fixed right?

I would test memory first. Then check if bulged caps appear in motherboard or inside psu. Voltage levels (and stability) of psu can also be measured by voltmeter (multimeter). Of course remember that any repairing must be carefully (professionally) made, if not capable, then it's probably easier and faster just replace the defective unit (mb or psu).

Underpowered psu is also one possibility, applies for laptops too. For instance using (hi-resolution) external display might require more wattage for laptops psu.

My GPU, PSU and also RAM has been checked and is ok per the suggested working condition. The system is working properly on Windows10 though..(need it for gaming unfortunately)
The thing is that i.e. IF my screen freeze and a YT vid is playing on background, the music is continuing properly, only the visuals of the screen have stuck, and I am not being able to reach TTY.

Do you have Ryzen CPU by any chance? There is one setting in BIOS that should be changed for those CPUs to prevent freezing.

UPD. On my ASUS Prime B-350's BIOS it' in there: Advanced => AMD CBS => Power Supply Idle Control => Typical Current Idle

No, unfortunately my CPU is an i5-4690

Then it's a problem with the graphics card or driver...

do you use a broadcom opensource driver (brcmsmac in my case)?
I'm asking because I had to use it recently because of this issue with the wl, and I had a random system freez with no log.
the kernel panic msg shows only if you were in TTY.
I had to use the patched wl from testing.

I might have narrowed down the problem...

It seems that the system was not freezing, nor the screen. I got myself a very generic keyboard/mouse set and connected it when the problem appeared and... everything worked! I know it sounds kinda dumb but was not able to move anything even with a 2nd keyboard/mouse set I had and thought it was not an input issue.
The ckb-next driver used for the Corsair keyboard/mouse I normally use is causing some malfunctions and stops working in random moments. I will continue this bug report on their github, thanks everyone for participating.
