[SOLVED] Very Low FPS on Heroes of Newerth

I successfully installed Hereos of Newerth from AUR with yay (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hon).
The game didn't launch at first:

warning: The VAD has been replaced by a hack pending a complete rewrite
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
  Value in failed request:  0x0
  Serial number of failed request: 82
  Current serial number in output stream: 96

By reading around i found and tried with: echo 'SetSave "gl_modesetting" ""' > ~/.Heroes\ of\ Newerth/game/startup.cfg
Now the game launch fine, i could login and update it to latest version but it's very laggy, during any match i get a max of 5 FPS even with lowest settings.

This is what i get in the terminal while playing:

warning: The VAD has been replaced by a hack pending a complete rewrite
[1227/233116:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(239)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

You are mixing nvidia 455.x,y and 460.x.y versions , get all of them at the same version.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

I updated the packages except for libxnvctrl because i'm not able to find a newer one.
However, nothing changed, i still have the same issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Very Low FPS on Heroes of Newerth

libxnvctrl comes from nvidia-settings.

It looks like nvidia-settings-beta doesn't split off libxnvctrl and should mention it in provides array but doesn't .
That should only affect things using libxnvctrl directly, and package page indicates  besides nvidia-settings that's only sensor related stuff.

Please post

$ glxinfo -B

to verify your settings.

Device: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0, 256 bits) (0xffffffff)

Your graphics setup is incorrect and X falls back to software rendering.

please post xorg log and the output of

$ lspci -k
$ ls -lR /etc/X11

Put all outputs in [ code ] tags, see https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

You can't use both nouveau and nvida drivers at the same time.

For what i know they are blacklisted automatically by Nvidia drivers:

cat /usr/lib/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf
blacklist nouveau

cat /usr/lib64/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf
blacklist nouveau

Also i don't have nouveau installed, if i give pacman -Qs nouveau  nothing is showed

Re: [SOLVED] Very Low FPS on Heroes of Newerth

You have a custom xorg conf, why what are it's contents? If it's the result of a nvidia-xconfig "just because" remove it. If there's an actual purpose to it you need to ensure

ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"

are present somewhere in the nvidia device definition/outputclass.

Regarding the nouveau situation, everything is as it should be. That line mentions all the modules that theoretically provide support for a given lspci device, the only thing that's actually relevant is the "in use" line.

Re: [SOLVED] Very Low FPS on Heroes of Newerth

Then remove  the /etc/X11/xorg.conf . Just running nvidia-xconfig does absolutely nothing useful and will lead to unwanted side effects as seen here.
