Since GNOME disabled desktop icons by default, there are some workarounds. according to wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GNOME#Desktop
and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nemo which I use to show desktop icons. It shows desktop icons. That's good. But checking with xeyes the desktop doesn't use Wayland! Only when I open Nemo to get to my home folder xeyes doesn't move its eyes within that Nemo window. Only desktop uses xorg/xwayland.
The problem is: I run Chromium with Wayland flags. Then sometimes I click the middle mouse button inside Chromium to open a link into a new tab. Sometimes it wont do that but instead Gedit is opened with a textfile, which resides on my desktop location. It seems like some of my mouse actions pass through the Chromium window! But Chromium is on maximized window size most of the time.
Alright. Now you would say "Dude, just post a bug on the Nemo bugtracker.". Maybe I'll do it. But I'm looking for a quick workaround first. Also I am not sure if the Cinnamon developers would prioritize this bug, because Cinnamon is far away from creating a Wayland-session. Nemo only supports Wayland because of the Nautilus fork. It seems like the desktop icons don't support Wayland yet.

wayland may not have the necessary settings to keep a window on the desktop without a shell extension. You can try https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ … s-ng-ding/

Thanks. This extension is running in Wayland mode. Unfortunately I can't use arrow keys to navigate through the icons. And typeahead also isn't working probably because the extension is based on crappy Nautilus. At least I'd like to use arrow keys on the desktop. ![]()
Is this fork really better than Desktop-Icons extension?
Furthermore if you copy a folder from the desktop into terminal then you get
x-special/nautilus-clipboard
copy
file:///path/to/dirinstead of a simple path. Nemo doesn't do this crap. Probably you get this because the extension uses Nautilus. Man, I hope the Cinnamon/Mint team will make haste and add more Wayland support.
