ASUS Dark Hero (X570) monitoring motherboard's thermal sensor

I am trying to use the sensors utility to monitor the water temperature of my custom loop cooling. My sensor is connected to the two-pin connector on the motherboard. In BIOS I can see the water temperature correct, but I have no idea which one of those listed in the output of `sensors` is actually for this sensor and is quite difficult to find out by just monitoring the values changes over time.

Can you post temperature screen from BIOS to compare? If I understand well, this custom cooling is on CPU, right?

Yes I can upload a photo of what my BIOS temperature screen looks like. In a few hours.
The custom cooling is on both, CPU and GPU and the sensor is attached to the motherboard's thermal sensor pins, number 24 "T_SENSOR" in the manual, page "1.2 Motherboard Layout".

I don't think that the thermistor header is read by the nct-6775 driver/nct-* SIO chip.  While I was poking/probing/prodding/validating inputs for my nct-6793 chip (Z370-A mobo), I could never find an input/output for the thermistor header (I had a 2 wire thermistor connected at the time).

It is quite necessary to monitor the water temperature in the loop as it shouldn't be higher than 60 C.

That would require a kernel driver for the device.  If you could locate what chip the probe is connected to you could identify what interface type that chip uses and work back from that to how it connects to the CPU.
Edit:
Could also be the NCT6798D-R has more inputs that the current kernel driver is not reading.

I have a different board, but reading this thread here I got the idea to just blindly load all drivers in "/usr/lib/modules/.../kernel/driver/hwmon/", just to see if one of them works and does something interesting. I did it with this command line here:

sudo -v; find /usr/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/hwmon -type f | while read file; do file=${file##*/}; file=${file%*.ko*}; sudo modprobe -v $file; done

With line-breaks added, the command line looks like this:

sudo -v
find /usr/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/hwmon -type f |
    while read file; do
        file=${file##*/}
        file=${file%*.ko*}
        sudo modprobe -v $file
    done

Nothing bad seems to have happened from running this command line.

Most interesting thing I found for my system here: the "jc42" module can read the temperature of my RAM sticks. There was no way to detect this automatically, the kernel doesn't load that driver automatically and sensors-detect doesn't find those RAM sensor devices. This jc42 module had to be loaded manually to find out that it works.

Sounds as it can be hard to do.
The proposal to load all modules sounds fine, they should either fail or succeed and it will be a one-time thing, so I guess no harm in trying.

I found something interesting as well.  Seems module `drivetemp` reports the same thing as hddtemp,     I'll see if I can use it in conky, vice hddtemp,

@vityafx:  I also see that a module called ntc_thermistor was loaded using @Ropid's little script.  Maybe you can look into that.

ETA:  As far as using conky...this module (drivetemp) makes new directories (/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon[5-7]), but the name is the same (drivetemp).  Since the device hwmon directories can change on a given reboot, it's probably best just to stick with hddtemp (using by-id).

Hi There,

Not an Arch user (yet?) but stumbled across this while trying to solve the problem on Ubuntu. During my search I also found https://github.com/electrified/asus-wmi … /issues/62. I ended up writing a simple daemon that reads the EC data based on the thread in asus-wmi-sensors. I've only added the relevant sensors that I use but welcome PRs. Not much in terms of error handling or anything but does the job for now.
