really? That's surprising considering it has exactly the same suspend and speedstep code as this kernel. Test it with beyond3 and report back to me again.
sorry I have no time at the moment, will test it next week
Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

@iphitus
OK I have tested beyond3 works perfectly
speedstep: works
suspend to ram : works
suspend to disk: works
Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

I am trying to make the new kernel but it seems that the file patch-2.6.17-thinkpad1.bz2 and the server that it is on are down any one have another copy of it? Thanks a lot for the help, and I am looing forward to installing this thinkpad specific kernel.
Edit: Site is backup as of 10:24 EST

I am sorry to say this but due to most of my time being used up at university and research I am disowning the thinkpad kernel in the AUR.
Sorry fellow thinkpaders but that will be the first and last installment of the kernel26thinkpad from me. If someone feels that its worthy enough of their time and effort please feel free to do so.

In the meantime, beyond4 has all the aforementioned thinkpad patches, excepting hdaps_protect.
If there's sufficient demand, i will pick up and maintain the thinkpad patchset, but someone else would have to step in to maintain the module packages and such until after my exams.

If beyond4 has all that then thats awesome . Truthfully I could never get hdaps_protect to work on my T41p so I never really liked that patch.

Being that I created and uploaded this initial patch that djpharaoh posted, I wouldn't mind continuing to maintain it...
I expected to be able to help djpharaoh get his feet wet with a kernel patch.
@iphitus
This is one project I wouldn't mind co-maintaining with you on the other hand. Let me know via E-Mail if you are interested.

Ok, I use this script:
http://pastebin.com/791815
Or it's impossible to write on the file
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/op_points_table

My bad, nevermind !
The patch works fine, it's just a matter of "how to write on the file !"

I got a Thinkpad T43 from my boss yesterdat. I installed Kubuntu on it (it was that or SLES 9 or 10 ), and I wasn't all that satisfied with it. Ubuntu looks very nice, and the GUI installer works great and all, but the laptop is so slooooow! It's got a gig of RAM! That's why I'm going to install Arch on it tonight. I'll be using your kernel for sure!
Specs: T43, Pentium M 1.86GHz, 1 GB RAM, i915 onboard VGA, CDRW/DVD (no DVD-RW ), WiFi, gigabit ethernet and Bluetooth, 40 GB S-ATA hard disk

Should have read this thing through first. -beyond ftw!!

Hiya,
this thread is really long, just a quick question: what about Linux 2.6.18 (current arch kernel)? In AUR I see only 2.6.17.
Bye

I have a thinkpad 600X. Probably too old to bother with this kernel, right?

I think your main problem is that kernel26thinkpad is way out of date at this stage. If you feel it would be worth your while, update it and try it out.
Offline
kernel26thinkpad seems to be unmaintained. I just take kernel26ck from abs and compile it myself. The only patch for my ThinkPad T42p, I have to apply before the build process, is the hdaps_protect for having the harddisc active protection system to work (and even that will be unnecessary in the future, because that patch will make it into 2.6.21 mainline), and after the kernel is installed, I add tp_smapi for battery management (which is an external kernel module + patch for the hdaps module).
But your ThinkPad is pretty old, so these patches most likely are of no use for you, so just go with one of the normal kernels (kernel26ck is just fine for desktop / laptop use).

Wow - cant believe this thread is still going on. Sorry to be away for soo long, but my laptop was stolen and along with it was my external harddrive which had all my linux config files and other files.
I spent about 6 months just getting back to my research and feel that soon I might be coming back to linux. I am currently using a T41p as I love this series. I will try to get back into the game. I have yet to install arch on this laptop cuz Im currently using windows xp and 2k on it.

I've a T23, and Arch runs faster than Lenny, that's why I get back to Arch.
Does anyone use T23? I want a specific Kernel for T23 too.
