Since the update to kernel 5.10.1 (and still wtih 5.10.9), my external monitor is recognized but stays black. The laptop is a Dell Latitude 7410 2-in-1
The issue is possibly related to [SOLVED] Kernel 5.10 External Monitor Issues. There are two noticable difference: I could not find any errors in any logs, and the other post was fixed by an update of the NVidia driver, and I don't have a NVidia GPU.
It works with kernel 5.9.14 (the last of the 5.9's).
What happens since kernel 5.10.1:
The second monitor is properly detected by xrandr (see dump below), and the monitor detects it has been plugged in. However, the screen simply stays black.
I could not find any errors in various logs (dmesg, Xorg).
I do not see any performance issues (often mentionned in i915 related posts).
Upon pluging the HDMI cable in, Xorg.0.log gets a
[ 3889.072] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@60.0 on DP1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none
I tried various xrandr options (changing --mode, --brightness...). Nothing worked (but not errors either).
(I also tested under Wayland, and it does not work either.)
Since I could not find any error reported anywhere, I am rather clueless. Has anyone encountered the same thing? Does anyone have an idea? Thanks!!
The xrandr output:

It seems to be fixed in the latest git version of the kernel, possibly because of the patch following this bug report. Anyway, marking as solved.
