I was trying to install Arch 0.7.2 and 0.7.1 on system with Asus A8V-XE motherboard.
LiveCD distribution works, but installer can't find SATA disk.
I thought that reason may be lack of sata-via module, but I don't know how to load the module in the installer. "modprobe sata-via" produces error messages - just like any other modprobe there.
Could you give me any tips how to add support for this motherboard for the installer?
I know, that disk is connected correctly, because Windows 2000 detects it. I know, that motherboard works in Linux, because I found sucessfull reports in the net.

try one of those isos:

I found this:

Is there any kernel available in Arch which support this chip?
Or do I need to manually patch and compile the kernel?
Can I just put new kernel on installation disk or use ArchBoot?

Your iso doesn't.

I solved this issue in following way:
1) I compiled 2.6.18-rc7 on my Arch workstation
2) I installed kubuntu - the only distribution with this kernel patch I found - on computer with SATA disk
3) I installed base Arch 0.7.2 on workstation
4) I put compiled kernel on base Arch 0.7.2
5) I compressed base installation and put it on pendrive
6) I created partition for Arch in kubuntu, copied system from pendrive and configured grub
And now it works.
Next time I should learn how to modify installation disk to avoid steps 2), 5) and 6).

And it works with 2.6.18 from testing.
