rutorrent with nginx after the php 7->8 update

Perhaps unsurprisingly the php update seems to have broken my previously-working rutorrent with nginx setup.

When I try to connect to rutorrent, I now get errors:

[29.01.2021 13:20:04] Bad response from server: (500 [error,getplugins]) Internal Server Error
[29.01.2021 13:20:08] JS error: [http://localhost/rutorrent/js/stable.js : 1771] TypeError: can't access property "scrollTop", this.dBody is undefined

Any tips on what needs changing for php 8?
