For some reason today I've discovered that my battery (Thinkpad X220) isn't charging (?) anymore. Or at least I don't see its status as charging.
My problem is quite similar to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=152860 (which is quite outdated and is solved almost randomly) only difference being is that I don't know yet how it's going to be when my battery will be on 0% and I haven't tried it with other OS, so i'm not sure if the issue is software-related and not with battery.
For instance here's output of acpi when it's charging:
Battery 0: Unknown, 96%Here's when it's discharging:
Battery 0: Discharging, 96%, discharging at zero rate - will never fully discharge.Tho, with that said, it doesn't discharge when it's charging, or at least not as fast for me to notice.
Thank everybody in advance! I'm not sure what else I can say and show to make situation more clear, unfortunately.

Update: I get the same output (Unknown) when I cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status on arch livecd, just to clarify that it isn't my configuration-specific issue.
So it's either hardware either some base low-level software issue.
Also, I've just noticed that my capacity is less than 50% now. Could it be the cause of this?
Battery 0: Unknown, 96%
Battery 0: design capacity 8400 mAh, last full capacity 3814 mAh = 45%Last edited by mipo (2021-02-02 23:18:45)

Have you tried accessing your battery via TLP?
How old is your battery? How many cycles has it done? This is just to eliminate the possibility it could be the battery.

Got it! I'll try tlp.

Huh, it's actually pretty old (I've bought this laptop used so I haven't noticed that until now), TLP says:
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/manufacture_date = 2011-07-12
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/first_use_date = 2011-11-02Cycle count is not much tho, compared to the age of it.
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/cycle_count = 302Last edited by mipo (2021-02-03 20:18:34)

A decade old battery... yeah.. Was it laying around discharged for a while, that hurts the battery even more

Yeah, that's understandable now... I think we can call it a day with that discovery. Time to buy a new one.
Thanks everyone for helping me understand!
