[Plasma] Very slow login with a phantom screen

I am using arch on my old laptop, and everything works fine except the splash screen after logging in takes ~3 mins. The issue exists when I am using Ubuntu 20.04 as well, but does not on Kubuntu 16.04. My CPU is i3 380m, my GPU is Geforce 310M. I am using linux-lts (was using linux, then switched to linux-lts to solve the issue with no luck) with nouveau driver. At first boot after installation, there was a second screen that wasn't actually connected that I could get my cursor over to. Disabled it on system settings but it still shows up on xrandr and I suspect that it is what is slowing down my login.
systemd-analyze:

Startup finished in 4.424s (kernel) + 17.459s (userspace) = 21.883s
graphical.target reached after 17.459s in userspace

As you can see, booting is fast(enough). But when I look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

There is no screen connected to my pc other than the laptop screen (which is LVDS-1).
Is this phantom screen really the source of my problem? If so, how can I solve this?

Re: [Plasma] Very slow login with a phantom screen

[ 30.504] (II) modeset(G0): glamor X acceleration enabled on NVA8
[ 30.504] (II) modeset(G0): glamor initialized
[ 30.535] (II) modeset(G0): Output VGA-1-2 has no monitor section
[ 30.569] (II) modeset(G0): EDID for output VGA-1-2
[ 30.569] (II) modeset(G0): Printing probed modes for output VGA-1-2

It's from noveau. How do you intend to use the optimus setup?

Don't know what you mean, but I will not use any external monitor, and don't plan on using any gpu heavy applications on this computer. So I'm fine with either iGPU or dGPU without any prime offloading.

Re: [Plasma] Very slow login with a phantom screen

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … phics_only or https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … _Bumblebee
You can also try to just ignore the output, but I'm not sure that'll deal w/ the slowdown.
Add /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-phantom_output.conf

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier "VGA-1-2"
	Option	"Ignore"	"True"
#	Option	"Enable"	"False"
EndSection

Re: [Plasma] Very slow login with a phantom screen

No help, couldn't power off my nvidia gpu with bbswitch for some reason, tried everything. Other than that I tried disabling the phantom output (VGA-1-2) via passing kernel parameter video=VGA-1-2:d on boot, but it doesn't affect login time. I tried using a wayland session for kde and even though I have to try 5 or more times to login (it locks and then I get the login screen again for some reason) there is no phantom output, the only output that xrandr shows is XWAYLAND0.

Re: [Plasma] Very slow login with a phantom screen

Wayland compositors dont't support optimus setups so far.
Ideally you'd deactivate the nvidia chip in the BIOS if you don't intend to use it..
Otherwise you could ignore it by lifting (and reversing the logics of) https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PR … rimary_GPU

I don't have that option on my laptop's bios.
I found this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/No … tput_issue but this doesn't help with my problem, it just disables the output.

Does ignoring the noveau device (NOT the output) help?
Does it help do disable the compositor?
Do you get the same delay w/ a fresh user account?

Ignoring the device how? Using bbswitch to power off my gpu on boot does not work, even though i tried disabling pcie power management.

I am not sure what do you mean by compositor or how to disable it. Can you elaborate?

With a fresh user account I get more or less the same amount of delay (but it is stuttering to the point of being unusable, not sure why) also I'm getting this entry from /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

(EE) modeset(0): failed to set mode: Permission denied
randr: falling back to unsynchronized pixmap sharing
(EE) NOUVEAU(G0): failed to set mode: Permission denied

And I still have the phantom output.
