[SOLVED] System error beep when all sound muted

I'm using alsamixer to manage sound levels on my laptop and it mostly works as expected, all channels do their respective things. Everything is alright except from the generic error beep that plays for example when I press backspace on an empty command line or CTRL-F for something that is not on the page in firefox. This sound is always played at full volume. I couldn't find out anything about this sound, I don't even know what to search for. I read the wiki page about sound in Arch, especially about ALSA, especially the section about alsamixer and I can't find anything on sounds that alsamixer doesn't handle. I checked for other sound cards and found none. I am completely lost.

alsa-* 1.2.4
alsa-plugins 1:1.2.2
alsa-card-profiles 14.0
(I actually have no idea which package is relevant, but most of those starting with "alsa-" have version 1.2.4)

The PC Speaker creating this beep is normally a distinct speaker on the motherboard that is unrelated to the actual sound card you use for normal playback as it has to work even if no operating system is present to indicate BIOS/boot errors. Ways of configuring/handling it is mentioned in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PC_speaker they do not normally have a controllable volume, but you could disable them.
